Reserve and Teacher's Reserve:
Instructors can house course materials within the library to be loaned to their
students. Loan periods for these resources are determined by the instructor. Most reserved material cannot be taken from the library.
Reference Services:
The library staff at Okefenokee Technical College (OTC) is dedicated to serving
its library patrons to fulfill their informational needs. Special assistance
will be given to patrons who are unfamiliar with the advanced technological
information retrieval systems.
Reference services will be provided on a first-come, first-served
basis. Priority is given to Okefenokee Technical College
students, faculty and staff. All patrons are required to
have their student identification cards. All students must also adhere to
the posted rules regarding the library facilities and computer
resources.
Bibliographic Instruction:
Bibliographic instruction is presented to students during each term. Sessions
can be scheduled in the library, a computer lab, or within a classroom. Instructors are encouraged to incorporate library
activities within their curriculum. Bibliographic instruction, along with an
online orientation and reference services, are made available to all online
students through GVTC, which is currently used to facilitate distance education
classes for OTC online students.
Instructors may schedule workshops, tours, and bibliographic
instructions during the academic term. Please send in
your requests for bibliographic instruction one week in advance.
Instructors may visit the library or send request via email
to library@okefenokeetech.edu.
Media Services:
Media services are available to faculty and staff at the Okefenokee Technical
College Library Media Center. However, for ease of access, instructional
departments house and distribute televisions, VCRs, overhead projectors,
and instructional tools to their faculty from within the department. Teaching
resources that are not accessible within the department, such as digital
camera or projectors, are available in the library
for faculty use.
Document Duplication Services:
A copy machine is available on both campuses for a small fee. A coin operated copy machines are available on each campus.
Interlibrary Loan:
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is an agreement among participating libraries to make
certain materials, books, dissertations, journal articles, etc., available
to member libraries upon request. This agreement for “resource sharing” gives
library patrons access to far more materials than any one library could hold.
The Okefenokee Technical College Library searches its own collection
first and then searches the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) database
to locate and borrow materials owned by other US, Canadian and European libraries.
Students may also search the WorldCat database to locate books, and Gold
(Geogia Online Libraries) to locate journal articles. Both databases are
available through Galileo (Georgia Library Learning Online). Some material may not be available for request since many
loans are based on the lending institution lending policy.
OTC Library reserves the right to refuse an interlibrary loan request that, in our judgment, would violate U.S. copyright law, Title 17 U.S. Code. Once an item is received through interlibrary-loan, it is the borrower’s responsibility to avoid copyright infringement.
To request materials from Interlibrary Loan, complete the online Interlibrary
Loan request form at the following links: ILL Book Request Form, ILL Article Request Form. Inter-Library Loan material will be ordered on a first come
first serve basis. Request forms are also available at the OTC Library Media
Center on the Alma campus.
Intercampus
Borrowing
Intercampus borrowing is a service available to all OTC faculty,
staff, and students. Patrons from both campuses and other
off-site
locations may borrow circulating materials from the Waycross
or Alma locations. Non-circulating materials are journals,
videos,
CD-ROMs, and Reserve Books. All cataloged materials are searchable
on the library online catalog. Courier service between
campuses allows for quick delivery of requested materials.
To request a book, students can use our Intercampus borrowing request form.
