BWAY Announces Quick Start Training Initiative

BWAY QuickStart Signing

BWAY Packaging of Homerville, Quick Start, and Okefenokee Technical College recently entered into a training agreement that brought the directors of all three together for a formal signing ceremony. The Training Agreement Signing Ceremony took place at 9 a.m., October 25, 2006, at Brockway Packaging.

Rusty Denning, Quick Start Training Coordinator, welcomed those present. Then Dr. Gail Thaxton, OTC president; Mr. Ray Horner, General Manager of BWAY; and Ms. Jan Melcher, Director of Quick Start each individually expressed their commitment to the success of the training program. Mr. Horner said that he and others at BWAY who had reviewed the Quick Start training materials are impressed thus far and look forward to working with Quick Start on this project.

The training agreement is based on BWAY’s commitment to provide approximately 58 new jobs for Georgians in the Homerville area as part of the company’s expansion plan. Quick Start will design and develop the training materials, as well as provide instructors for the classes. Okefenokee Technical College will be available to assist BWAY with ongoing training programs once the Quick Start training is completed.

In business for more than 100 years, BWAY Packaging (a division of BWAY Corporation) is the leading manufacturer of rigid metal containers for the general line category of the North American container industry. They also produce steel ammunition boxes for conventional and high-tech armaments and provide material center services, including metal shearing, coating, and printing.

Quick Start is Georgia’s premiere economic development program, administered through the Department of Technical and Adult Education. The Quick Start program is an economic incentive program that provides employee training at no cost for qualified companies that are expanding their work force. The Quick Start program has been in existence since 1967 and has been a training partner in more than 5,149 expansion and relocation projects.
