Georgia Power Gives to OTC Electrical Lineworker Apprenticeship Program

James Willis, Area Manager of the Georgia Power Company, recently presented Dr. Gail Thaxton, President of Okefenokee Technical College, with a very generous donation to the OTC Foundation for the Electrical Lineworker Apprenticeship Program.

The money will be used to purchase pole climbing equipment and various hand tools and to help construct a “Skills Field” at the OTC Waycross Campus as an outdoor lab for students to gain hands-on experience in climbing, pole setting, underground cable installation, equipment operation, safety, and much more.  James Willis and Dr. Gail Thaxton
The first Electrical Lineworker class will begin April 2, 2007. This new program will run 8 weeks and will be offered quarterly. Graduates can expect above-average starting pay with highly-respected companies. Moreover, interviews for posted job openings are guaranteed to graduates by several utility companies, including Georgia Power.

For additional information, please call (912) 287-5854. Dr. Thaxton expressed her gratitude to Mr. Willis for his support and for Georgia Power’s investment in technical education and workforce development in this community.
