Charlie Gibson Promoted to Director of Career Placement and Development at OTC

Charlie GibsonCharlie Gibson recently accepted the position of Director of Career Placement and Development at Okefenokee Technical College. In this position, Mr. Gibson will be responsible for coordinating the division of career placement services, which includes collecting and analyzing placement data; marketing career services to area employers; and assisting students in the following: resume and interview preparation, job opportunities, and career majors.

Mr. Gibson has worked in several areas at OTC. He was first hired as the Tech Prep/School to Work Coordinator in November 1999. In this capacity, Gibson implemented Tech Prep/School to Work grants totaling over $1,275,000. He also successfully and enthusiastically coordinated several programs and activities, such as CHOICES, a program aimed at reducing the high school dropout rate, the Summer Educator Academy, and Educators In Industry.

While working as Tech Prep Coordinator, Gibson also taught Marketing Management as an adjunct evening instructor at OTC. Prior to joining Okefenokee Technical College, Mr. Gibson taught a 7th and 8th grade program called TARGET at Ware County Middle School. Gibson worked as manager of Lott Furniture Company for many years before entering the field of education. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Middle Grades Education from Valdosta State University.

Gibson is married to Mary Helen, a second grade teacher at Wacona Elementary School. They have three sons: Chris, Matt, and Will. Chris is a Production Analyst with Kimberly-Clarke in Roswell, Matt is a Video Production Specialist with North Point Church in Alpharetta, and Will is a Senior Engineer with Georgia Power/Southern Company in Savannah. Gibson teaches the Cross Connection Young Adult Sunday School Class and sings in the choir at Trinity United Methodist Church. He is Education Committee Chairperson for the Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce and an Eagle Scout.

Mr. Gibson assumed his new duties on July 1, 2006.
