Lee Gowen Named OTC Board Member

Lee Gowen of Charlton County recently joined the Okefenokee Technical College Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning July 2012. Gowen is manager of Big John Trailers and has been involved in the business’s operations for the past sixteen years, currently overseeing sales, purchasing, accounting, and logistics. He is a graduate of Charlton County High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Georgia Southern University.

In addition to his responsibilities at Big John Trailers, Gowen is chair of the finance committee at the Folkston United Methodist Church and serves on the Charlton County Development Authority, the Volunteer Fire Department Advisory Board, and recently held the position of Folkston City Councilman.

Lee is married to Molly, also a lifelong resident of Charlton County, and they have one child.

Gowen will join other board members in communicating community needs to the college president and administration. Directors interpret state board policies and provide supplemental policies to ensure that the needs of area business and industry are met to the highest possible degree and in the most cost effective and efficient manner. Consequently, OTC considers its local board members a vital asset in the quest to fulfill the mission of the college.

The OTC local board meets monthly and is composed of eight members representing the college’s designated six-county service area. At least one member from each county is represented on the Board. Gowen will serve with Chairman Pete Pyrzenski, (Ware); Vice Chairman Phillip Cook, (Clinch); Daniel Johnson, (Pierce); Jack Johnson, (Bacon); Dr. Keith Johnson, (Ware); and Greg Jacobs, (Brantley).
