Jewell Sweat Promoted to Director of Instruction

Dr. Jewell Sweat, employed with Okefenokee Technical College as a radiologic technology instructor since 1990, has accepted a new position at OTC - Director of Instruction for General Education/Learning Support/Personal Services/Allied Health.

Dr. Sweat holds a bachelor’s degree in education, a master’s of education degree in Vocational Education, an education specialist degree in Adult and Career Education, and a doctor of education degree in Adult and Career Education, all from Valdosta State University. She is also certified as an R. T. in radiologic technology and mammography.Dr. Jewell Sweat

In 2004, she was one of twenty educators selected from across the United States to participate in the Leadership Academy for Educators and was named to America’s Registry of Outstanding Professionals. She was the 2004 recipient of the Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Education at Okefenokee Technical College.

She was published in Techniques Magazine and has been invited to present research on Tech Prep in Montreal, Canada, and Savannah, Georgia. She has also made many presentations throughout the state on Gender and Educational Plan Differences of Georgia Middle School Students with Career Interests in Mathematics and Science.

As an employee of OTC, Dr. Sweat has served as the OTC Radiologic Technology Program Director (1997 through 2006), chair and vice-chair of the State Instructional Faculty Consortia Committee for Radiologic Technology, chair of the Allied Health Unit, chair of the Southeast Consortia for Radiology Technology, and advisor for OTC’s National Honor Society.

Prior to 1990, Dr. Sweat worked as chief technologist and manager for Radiology Services in Waycross for twelve years. She is married to Dr. Jim Sweat.
