WB&T Officials Present Toolbox Scholarships to OTC Students

Waycross Bank & Trust officials and Okefenokee Technical College President Gail Thaxton presented Jutecia Pinckney and Julianna Lacefield with an OTC Foundation Toolbox Scholarship recently.

Pinckney and Lacefield’s scholarship awards were funded by WB&T as part of the foundation’s toolbox fundraiser last fall.

Both recipients are enrolled in the first quarter of the nursing program, and both students were facing at least $500 in out-of-pocket expenses for nursing books, “tools,” and supplies. The toolbox scholarships helped offset these costs for Lacefield and Pinckney.

The OTC Foundation helped offset expenses for sixteen other OTC students who were awarded toolbox scholarships on Monday, March 31, as well. Scholarship Recipients

Toolbox scholarships are awarded on confirmation day each quarter to eligible students to help with the cost of program supplies and “tools.” Students are awarded vouchers for uniforms, bookstore credit for cosmetology kits, welding helmets, health kits, and an assortment of other tools, including books. The program is in its third year.

Toolbox scholarships are made possible by donations from the community. Major contributors to the 2008 fund were Brantley Telephone, Georgia Power, the Monroe Foundation, Wade & RoseMary Strickland, and Waycross Bank & Trust.

The Foundation will host its annual “Toolbox Scholarship Golf Tournament” on November 7, 2008, to raise toolbox scholarship funds for 2009.
