The Okefenokee Technical College staff gathered on August 9, 2007, to honor and extend best wishes and continued success to Dr. Neil Aspinwall, Vice President of Economic Development. Dr. Aspinwall was first hired at OTC as the Director of Adult Literacy in 1995. Dr. Thaxton welcomed the group and congratulated Dr. Aspinwall on his new position at Waycross College. She thanked him for his dedication and commitment to Okefenokee Technical College, citing a number of his accomplishments. She said that, “there is no doubt that Dr. Aspinwall will be missed here.”

Dr. John Pike, OTC President Emeritus, shared some history of the college and of the Economic Development division. He explained the challenges of the Vice President of Economic Development and said that Neil “took care of every bit of it with a smile.” Pike went on to say that he knew that Dr. Aspinwall will continue to be a great success.

In his address to the staff, Aspinwall talked about his philosophy for his department. He said he always told his staff to “Be nice.” “In fact,” he said, “they probably got sick of hearing it.” He also commented on his different roles at the college and how Terrie McArthur, the former secretary in the Economic Development department, trained him once he moved to that area. “If you knew Terrie, you know that Terrie never got in a hurry, but every person who came into that Economic Development office left feeling like they were valued.” Aspinwall praised his staff, saying that he was blessed with a good staff that practiced good customer service. In closing, Aspinwall stated, “After I am gone, if I am remembered here, I hope that I am remembered, not for Aspinwall with wife, Teresawhat I have done, but I hope that you will say that I cared about you, about people.
On behalf of the staff, Andy Brannen, Director of Business and Services, presented Aspinwall with a gift and invited everyone to enjoy refreshments and fellowship with Dr. Aspinwall and his wife, Teresa. The planning committee for the event included Marcia Braddock, Andy Brannen, Angie Crews, Pamela Farr, Steve Pearce, and Judy Scott.
